PROJECTS:
Project
“Thinking of You” was formed in 2000 for cancer
patients attending our group having surgery,
chemotherapy or radioation treatments. Aldie King and
Dorlis Waters volunteer their services of mailing these
cards with encouraging words. Aldie and Dorlis mail out
approximately 30 to 40 cards a month to cancer patients.
Project “Hope
Closet”
was
formed in 2003 to benefit cancer patients who are in
need for new or used bras, wigs, and turbans, etc. These
items are donated monthly by group members.
Project “Snack
Baskets”
was
formed in 2004 and provides snacks for the three
oncology offices in Blount County for cancer patients
having chemotherapy and radiation. Those attending our
group meetings help in this great project by donating
items of individually wrapped items of cakes, granola or
fruit bars, peanut butter and cheese crackers. Many
cancer patients often spend eight hours for treatments
and these snacks provide comfort during a difficult
time. (During aggressive treatments, Debbie Motley
began using her own money to provide snacks in these
offices. She passed away in 2006 and Hope for Today
continues this project in her memory). Contact
Becky Reagan at 984-2576 to help with snacks.

EVENTS:
Our 1st
Annual Fundraising Event
was held April 29, 2006 at East Maryville Baptist Church
Fellowship Hall located at 1150 Brown School Road in
Maryville,
Tennessee.
Our Bible verse theme was Romans 12:12-13 Joyful in
hope, sharing with God’s people in need. We had no
admission charge and an estimated 300 attended and 96 of
these being cancer survivors. 100% of the money
raised stayed in Blount County. We praise God that
a total of $14,000.00 was raised to form Project C.A.R.E.
(Caring Assistance and Relief for
Emergencies).
